[Trailer] Star Trek Into Darkness

We get our first glimpse of the upcoming reboot sequel via this "announcement" trailer, as a life long Trek fan I’m still not sure what to make of it. I enjoyed the reboot but it lacked a true Trek feel, we’ll see if this one can capture that as of right now it looks like a big action tent pole film….

The Star Trek franchise continues with this follow-up to 2009's J.J. Abrams-directed reboot. Abrams returns to direct from a script by Damon Lindelof and the writing team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The crew of the Enterprise engages in an epic battle of good versus evil after being summoned home to discover Starfleet in ruins, and venturing into a war zone to find the powerful villain (Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch) responsible for the devastation. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Japanese trailer below has a bit of extra footage which hints that they might be doing a version of a classic Trek film…

  1. I really want to learn Japanese. That would be fun...Right the movie. It looks like it will be a good flick. I'm usually not a picky person until I watch horrors. LOL

    1. I keep meaning to learn German, maybe we'll get caught up someday. Movie looks fun, I'm not super picky but I'm a bit of a Trek nerd.

  2. I cannot wait to see this. I think Trek purists don't like it because Gene Roddenberry was a complete control freak micromanaging every single ever loving detail. He's gone and Trek is bigger than he was. If Trek purists were totally honest, the franchise hasn't been good film or otherwise in 20 years. Voyager was abysmal as was Enterprise. DS9 was the last good thing Trek did. J.J. Abrams rocked this series and has given it the jolt it has so desperately needed.

    1. I've been a life long Trek fan but a strange one. I've never seen the original series, just the movies but have watched all the series since TNG. I enjoyed the reboot but didn't love it.

I'm very curious to see if there's more meat to this one than the first.

    2. I grew up on the original series, loved TNG and thought the subsequent films were good except Wrath of Khan which was fantastic. Then DS9 came along and blew me out of the water. It was like the Roddenberry reins were finally gone and they could go where they wanted and explore things they couldn't before. I have always loved Roddenberry, but he had a distinct vision that he stuck to which limited things. Then Voyager came which I don't even know what happened there, I never got into it. Enterprise had potential, but they just gave up on it for whatever reason.

My mother, a life long Trek fan loved J.J.'s spin as did I. I thought there was plenty of meat to the story. There were lots of layers, but again we're talking Kirk, the shallowest of the captains emotionally, spiritually, etc. I think J.J. didn't go as deep because it was the first and he concentrated on the audience accepting the character dynamic. It was the perfect bridge film. This second one looks alot more in depth as Khan was to the original motion picture.

  3. Could never warm to TOS, still need to watch the whole thing at some point. Do love the movies and just adore TNG along with DS9.

Voyager, took 3 viewings of the whole series to finally warm to it. Enterprise was a good idea with bad execution, only one I really started to check out on towards the end.

I did enjoy the reboot especially Karl Urban's McCoy. I'll be looking forward to this one but kind of hope they skip the Khan aspect.

    1. I hope they skip Khan, too. I mean they did Wrath and it was amazing. No need to reboot.

    2. I agree, things done as well as that have been should be left alone. Think we are getting a lot of misdirection about the actual plot.
